    An Extensible "SCHEMA-LESS" Database Framework for Managing High-Throughput Semi-Structured Documents

    Object-Relational database management system is an integrated hybrid cooperative approach to combine the best practices of both the relational model utilizing SQL queries and the object-oriented, semantic paradigm for supporting complex data creation. In this paper, a highly scalable, information on demand database framework, called NETMARK, is introduced. NETMARK takes advantages of the Oracle 8i object-relational database using physical addresses data types for very efficient keyword search of records spanning across both context and content. NETMARK was originally developed in early 2000 as a research and development prototype to solve the vast amounts of unstructured and semistructured documents existing within NASA enterprises. Today, NETMARK is a flexible, high-throughput open database framework for managing, storing, and searching unstructured or semi-structured arbitrary hierarchal models, such as XML and HTML

    GeneLab is currently being developed by NASA to accelerate 'open science' biomedical research in support of the human exploration of space and the improvement of life on earth. Phase I of the four-phase GeneLab Data Systems (GLDS) project emphasized capabilities for submission, curation, search, and retrieval of genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics ('omics') data from biomedical research of space environments. The focus of development of the GLDS for Phase II has been federated data search for and retrieval of these kinds of data across other open-access systems, so that users are able to conduct biological meta-investigations using data from a variety of sources. Such meta-investigations are key to corroborating findings from many kinds of assays and translating them into systems biology knowledge and, eventually, therapeutics

    GeneLab (http://genelab.nasa.gov) is a NASA initiative designed to accelerate open science biomedical research in support of the human exploration of space and the improvement of life on earth. The GeneLab Data Systems (GLDS) were developed to help investigators corroborate findings from omics (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics) assays and translate them into systems biology knowledge and, eventually, therapeutics, including countermeasures to support life in space. Phase I of the project (completed) emphasized developing key capabilities for submission, curation, storage, search, and retrieval of omics data from biomedical research in and of space environments. The development focus for Phase II (completed) was federated data search and retrieval of these kinds of data from other open-access repositories. The last phase of the project (in work) entails developing an omics analysis tool set, and a portal to visualize processed omics data, emphasizing integration with the data repository and search functions developed during the prior phases. The final product will be an open-access system where users can individually or collaboratively publish, search, integrate, analyze, and visualize omics data

    Involutivity of integrals for sine-Gordon, modified KdV and potential KdV maps

    Closed form expressions in terms of multi-sums of products have been given in \cite{Tranclosedform, KRQ} of integrals of sine-Gordon, modified Korteweg-de Vries and potential Korteweg-de Vries maps obtained as so-called (p,−1)(p,-1)-traveling wave reductions of the corresponding partial difference equations. We prove the involutivity of these integrals with respect to recently found symplectic structures for those maps. The proof is based on explicit formulae for the Poisson brackets between multi-sums of products.Comment: 24 page

    Implementation of screened hybrid functionals based on the Yukawa potential within the LAPW basis set

    The implementation of screened hybrid functionals into the WIEN2k code, which is based on the LAPW basis set, is reported. The Hartree-Fock exchange energy and potential are screened by means of the Yukawa potential as proposed by Bylander and Kleinman [Phys. Rev. B 41, 7868 (1990)] for the calculation of the electronic structure of solids with the screened-exchange local density approximation. Details of the formalism, which is based on the method of Massidda, Posternak, and Baldereschi [Phys. Rev. B 48, 5058 (1993)] for the unscreened Hartree-Fock exchange are given. The results for the transition-energy and structural properties of several test cases are presented. Results of calculations of the Cu electric-field gradient in Cu2O are also presented, and it is shown that the hybrid functionals are much more accurate than the standard local-density or generalized gradient approximations

    Airport Remote Tower Sensor Systems

    Networks of video cameras, meteorological sensors, and ancillary electronic equipment are under development in collaboration among NASA Ames Research Center, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These networks are to be established at and near airports to provide real-time information on local weather conditions that affect aircraft approaches and landings. The prototype network is an airport-approach-zone camera system (AAZCS), which has been deployed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and San Carlos Airport (SQL). The AAZCS includes remotely controlled color video cameras located on top of SFO and SQL air-traffic control towers. The cameras are controlled by the NOAA Center Weather Service Unit located at the Oakland Air Route Traffic Control Center and are accessible via a secure Web site. The AAZCS cameras can be zoomed and can be panned and tilted to cover a field of view 220 wide. The NOAA observer can see the sky condition as it is changing, thereby making possible a real-time evaluation of the conditions along the approach zones of SFO and SQL. The next-generation network, denoted a remote tower sensor system (RTSS), will soon be deployed at the Half Moon Bay Airport and a version of it will eventually be deployed at Los Angeles International Airport. In addition to remote control of video cameras via secure Web links, the RTSS offers realtime weather observations, remote sensing, portability, and a capability for deployment at remote and uninhabited sites. The RTSS can be used at airports that lack control towers, as well as at major airport hubs, to provide synthetic augmentation of vision for both local and remote operations under what would otherwise be conditions of low or even zero visibility

    Method and system for querying a collection of Unstructured or semi-structured documents to identify presence of, and provide context and/or content for, keywords and/or keyphrases. The documents are analyzed and assigned a node structure, including an ordered sequence of mutually exclusive node segments or strings. Each node has an associated set of at least four, five or six attributes with node information and can represent a format marker or text, with the last node in any node segment usually being a text node. A keyword (or keyphrase) is specified. and the last node in each node segment is searched for a match with the keyword. When a match is found at a query node, or at a node determined with reference to a query node, the system displays the context andor the content of the query node
